Graduate School Overview

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) has one of the oldest graduate schools in Canada, established in 1785. At UNB, students find a rich choice of programs in more than 30 different fields - from biomedical engineering, doing internationally-acclaimed research, to creative writing, one of the best in Canada. Whether the program is course-based or research-based, the thrill of working with the passionate minds who are helping with the next manned mission to Mars, with the marine mammal conservation, or who are improving people's lives by conducting research to inform social policy is very powerful.

The Canadian Rivers Institute, the first institute of its kind in the world, focusing on rivers and the challenges of water resources conservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use  The Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society, which is one of the few research institutes in Canada and the US studying the role of climate change in current and future conflicts  The Institute of Biomedical Engineering, a world-renowned research facility in biomedical engineering and one of the oldest solely dedicated to this field  The Planetary Space Science Centre, which is the only NASA-supported planetary imaging facility in Canada

Buildings and Resources

UNB'S campus community is safe, accessible and very student-friendly. The community has a hair salon, clothing store, convenience store, and bookstore. There's a Pub n' Grill, and many food options including a cafe in the Library. Graduate students hang out at the Alden Knowlan House or 'The Grad House' where the BBQ is constantly fired up in the summer months. Campus recreation facilities include three gymnasia, cardio room, weight room, dance studio, indoor pool, climbing wall, squash courts and playing fields. There are also many resources for graduate students which include financial services, employment services, career counselling and an active Graduate Students Association.

Grad Student Organizations

The GSA in Saint John and Fredericton provide a stimulating environment through social and academic gatherings, as well as access to services such as health and dental plans and student travel plans.
